South Africa collapse dramatically against Sri Lanka’s spin to crash to 73 all out in the first test in Galle on Saturday. Off spinner Dilruwan Perera took 6 wickets for 32 runs, left arm spinner Rangana Hereth took 3 wickets for 32 runs. As the pair bowled in an unbroken partnership for 28 overs, after Sri Lanka set South Africa a target of 352 for victory.
Hereth moved to ninth on the all time wickets tally with 423 career dismissals to his name, while
Perera’s five wickets haul was the six of his career. As the hosts registered thumping 278 run win over South Africa inside three days of the opening Test on Saturday.
South African team were all out just for 73 in their second innings, the worst for them in Sri Lank. And it is the lowest scored against Sri Lanka. Only three of the visitors made it into double figures, and the highest partnership yielding just 22, as batsman repeatedly fell in their attempts to take on the Sri Lanka spinners.
South African skipper Faf Du Plessis said, the shape that he has is a lot different than the pace you can practice against. You can practice 10,000 balls, but he bowls a different shape, gets drift and its is tough.
Sri Lanka opener Dimuth Karunaratne was name d man of the match for his outstanding batting performance. The 30 year old carried his bat in the first innings to post an unbeaten 158 and then hit 60 runs in Sri Lanka’s second innings.
